KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A national jewelry store chain plans to give a Kansas City man a hefty award for turning in a lost cargo bag containing $266,000 worth of jewelry.
Helzberg Diamonds said it would give 36-year-old Robert Lewis a $10,000 reward for his honesty and make a $5,000 donation to Jackson County Court Appointed Special Advocates in his honor.
Lewis, a Midwest Airlines worker, discovered the 40-pound orange bag belonging to Helzberg at about 9 p.m. Monday at Kansas City International Airport after finishing a 17-hour workday at his second job at the Kansas City Airport Marriott.

What would you have done if you were in Robert’s shoes? Would you have done the right thing? Would you have agonized over the decision? I suppose most of us would be this honest if we knew we would be rewarded. But, as Bill Hybels (founding pastor of Willow Creek Community Church near Chicago) writes, true character is revealed when no one is looking.
No one is immune to the struggle with character issues — whether it is a short temper, lust, greed, pride (or maybe all of the above… yikes!), etc. We are all in constant need of God’s help — in the end, only Jesus can transform our hearts. If we want to become new creations, then we must seek after Christ with all our hearts.
That being said, God calls us to partner with Him in this journey of transformation. What decisions are you making that are shaping the kind of person you are today and will become tomorrow? What are the most important influences in your life? What are your deepest hopes, dreams and goals for your life?
May you, in partnership with Jesus, become the person He wants you to be — whether anyone is looking or not!
